What is the Veterans Professional/Occupational Licensure Fee Waiver Program?
Wisconsin Act 209 (effective July 1, 2012) required that the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) establish and maintain a program that grants fee waivers for initial licenses to qualified Wisconsin veterans. DFI licenses/registrations eligible for the fee waiver program include solicitor/collector, mortgage loan originator, securities broker-dealer agent, securities investment advisor representative, and securities agent for issuer.
Under this program:
- Each qualified applicant is eligible for only one initial license fee waiver.
- The fee waiver applies only to licenses that are issued to individuals, and not to licenses issued to businesses or other entities.
- Waivers are not permitted for license renewals.
How to Apply for a Waiver
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) determines eligibility for this program. WDVA will issue a voucher to applicants who are deemed eligible for a fee waiver. To review eligibility rules or apply for a voucher, visit the WDVA's Eligibility web page.
How to Redeem Your Voucher
You may redeem your voucher when you apply for an initial license. Each licensing program noted above has guidelines and procedures in place regarding licenses they issue. If you choose to apply your one-time waiver toward a solicitor/collector license, submit a solicitor/collector license application to the Division of Banking. Provide the voucher code you received from the WDVA in the upper right corner of the application under the fee amount. There is no need to send any payment for the license fee – the fee will be waived upon acceptance of the voucher code.
