America Saves Week 2023: Build Personal Savings to Reach Financial Goals
MADISON, Wis. – During America Saves Week, February 27 through March 3, the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) is spreading the word about the importance of saving and encouraging Wisconsinites to make saving for the future a daily part of their lives.
“America Saves Week is a national campaign that encourages individuals and families to check-in on their finances by highlighting several key areas that contribute to financial stability,” said DFI Secretary-designee Cheryll Olson-Collins. “It’s a great time for Wisconsinites to build their financial wellness and resilience by setting a savings goal, making a plan, and getting in the habit of saving. Our goal is to help more Wisconsinites start to build emergency savings and save for the future, whether that’s for buying a car, paying for college, purchasing a home, or planning for retirement.”
Wisconsinites are encouraged to evaluate their personal finances and savings habits by taking the America Saves Pledge. Through this pledge, individuals complete a financial check-in that allows them to get a clear view of their finances, set savings goals, and create a plan to achieve them. After completing the pledge, America Saves provides tips, resources, and tools through short emails and text reminders to keep individuals on track toward their savings goals.
In addition, America Saves provides information on five critical areas of financial wellness throughout America Saves Week, including: Monday, February 27: Saving Automatically; Tuesday, February 28: Saving for the Unexpected; Wednesday, March 1: Saving for Major Milestones; Thursday, March 2: Saving by Reducing Debt; and Friday, March 3: Saving at Any Age.
The week is also an opportunity for organizations to promote good savings habits to their employees. Launched in May 2021, the statewide Wisconsin Saves Automatic Saving Initiative encourages Wisconsin businesses to work with their employees to save each month through payroll split deposit to establish emergency savings and save for the future. Employers can sign up on the Wisconsin Saves website to receive a suite of ready-to-use resources to help them promote split deposit as a way they support their employees in reaching their personal savings goals.
Launched in 2007, America Saves Week, coordinated by America Saves and its partners, is an annual opportunity for organizations to promote good saving behaviors and for individuals to evaluate their own saving habits and commit to saving successfully by making a plan to achieve better financial stability.
