Craig Heilman Appointed DFI Deputy Secretary
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) Secretary Cheryll Olson-Collins today announced she appointed Craig Heilman as the agency’s deputy secretary. DFI Deputy Secretary Heilman started in the position on August 12, 2024. Prior to serving as deputy secretary, Heilman served as the division administrator for the agency’s Division of Corporate and Consumer Services.
“Craig is a great addition to the DFI leadership team with his extensive leadership, team building, and management experience,” said DFI Secretary Olson-Collins. “Craig is known for his ability to motivate staff and create inclusive environments. I’m confident he will do a great job leading the agency’s daily operations. Together, we will leverage the strengths of our agency to protect the safety and soundness of Wisconsin’s financial institutions, safeguard the investing public, facilitate commerce, and increase financial capability throughout the state.”
In his new deputy secretary role, Heilman will lead a staff of 142 employees and oversee the DFI’s day-to-day operations, working directly with the agency’s division administrators and directors and with representatives of other state agencies.
Before entering state service, Heilman held several leadership positions in technology management and business administration over his 14-year career at TASC (Total Administrative Services Corporation) in Madison. He was TASC’s director of business architecture where he built strong teams that bridged the business with technology delivery and applied new ways of working to stay current in an environment of constant change. Earlier in his career, Heilman held roles in executive management in information technology and software development services.
Heilman holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He is certified in agile development frameworks and holds a Lean Six Sigma yellow belt certification from the University of Wisconsin School of Business. Heilman currently resides in the greater Madison area.
